On May 30, 2018 our Skeet shooting family suffered the loss of one of our greatest ambassadors Donald M. Snyder, Jr. The Zone VI Skeet Association extends our deepest sympathy to Don's wife Bertha, son, Curtis and his wife Ann, his daughter, Donna Snyder-Thomas and her husband Eric and his step-sons, Zane B. Perrin and Jay S. Perrin.

Everyone who knew Don will always remember his bright smile and upbeat attitude toward not only Skeet but life. A mentor to many and Skeet accomplishments that are to lengthy to recap here, I would like to re-elaborate on some Zone VI history for those who may not be aware of his impact on just the Zone VI Skeet Association.

At the 2014 Zone VI Championships held at the National Gun Club, in San Antonio, there were 107 total shooters. One of the Zone VI Directors present at the 2014 Championships was then newly elected NSSA Director for Texas, Don Snyder. Those directors discussed options, planned and promoted a meeting of all the Zone VI EC members that would be present at the 2014 World Shoot to propose a plan for the iZone VI format.

Don was a strong proponent for the format having competed in postal shoots across Europe during his time in the military, Don offered some much needed enthusiasm to attempt the new iZone format.

In 2015 the first iZone VI Championship was successful and our goal of increased participation was achieved. Specifically attendance was at a 10 year high with a 76% increase in total shooters and a 68% increase in targets shot as compared to 2014. I remember to this day Don calling me after the 2015 iZone VI and thanking me for "pulling it off" to which I could only say "Don, I could have never done it without your support".

The 2018 iZone VI Championships will be dedicated to Don's memory and the iZone VI HOA Championship will be re-titled "The Don Snyder iZone VI HOA Championship" in appreciation for Don stepping up and promoting the iZone format, and his support and guidance to competitive Skeet.
